Have you ever admired a cloudy
sky, but struggled to convey the vaporous, ethereal, but 3-dimensional quality
of clouds or the colours of a sunset?
Join us for one day pastel workshop
with Karen Christiansen, who will guide students through two different approaches
to capturing atmospheric skies in the medium of pastel.
Karen will walk participants
through the elements of perspective, value, form, colour and texture as they
relate to clouds. She will demonstrate how purposeful underpainting can form a
strong foundation to create depth in a sky – all with the aim to move beyond a
reference image to convey the emotion of a moment.
This is a fantastic opportunity
to learn by doing. Be inspired by Karen’s accessible teaching approach, her creative
process and the work of fellow artists. Suitable for all levels of experience. Don’t
miss it!
Materials list:
Pastels: Bring the pastels
you have. You will especially need cool and warm greys in a range of values
(tones) such as the following sets or similar:

1 x A4 sheet mid grey Pastelmat
or Canson velvet,
1 x A4 Sheet Pastelmat or Canson

Masking tape, rubbing alcohol,
brush, small glass jar, pastel pencils (optional)
Wet wipes, paper towel, apron

A packed lunch – morning tea,
tea, coffee provided.
